Dental veneers are very thin coverings that are applied to the front surfaces of teeth. They can be used to address an array of cosmetic issues including deep stains, pits, worn edges, cracks, and chips. They can also fill in gaps between teeth and help teeth appear straighter. Veneers are tinted to match the person’s existing teeth, so they blend in and look completely natural. Veneers usually take two visits to the place. At the first appointment, the tooth surface will be prepared to receive the veneer and an impression will be made and sent to a lab where the veneer will be custom made. At the second appointment, the veneer will be adhered to the tooth surface using a special adhesive, then gently buffed, so it fits comfortably.
Veneers are applied in two stages. During the first visit, a portion of the enamel from the surface of the tooth is removed to ensure a proper fit. An impression of your teeth is made and sent out to prepare your new veneers. It usually takes 1-2 weeks for your dentist to receive the veneers back from the laboratory. You will be fitted with a temporary veneer and on the next visit it will be replaced with a permanent veneer.
